I’m thinking about that old Reagan campaign ad, updated for today:
“There’s a Trumpy Bear in the woods. For some people, Trumpy Bear is easy to see. Others don’t see it at all. Some people say Trumpy Bear is tame. Others say Trumpy Bear is vicious and dangerous. Since no one can really be sure who’s right, isn’t it smart to be as strong as Trumpy Bear? If there is a Trumpy Bear.”

I find a certain mordant humor in the fact that Reagan’s (effective) scare tactic ad from 1984 has morphed into it’s own sad parody in 2018. It is also interesting to note that although the Teddy Bear is an American invention, the Russian bear has been a symbol of that country for decades.
It is also astonishing to me that I haven’t seen any of our fine topical TV comedians, (the best and most incisive commentators on today’s politics because, unlike the pundits, they do their homework,) have made the connection I have here.
Oh well, I guess I’m too hip for the room but then the makers of Trumpy Bear are either great hoaxers or completely self-unaware.
