Indiana’s Republican attorney general, Curtis Hill, has been elected vice chair of the national Republican Attorneys General Association. This comes about three weeks after the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced that it would not be pursuing criminal charges against Hill. Special Prosecutor Dan Sigler told a press conference on October 23 that, after an investigation, which you can read the results of here, he thought that he did not have enough evidence to pursue charges against Hill based on reports from numerous women who said he was drunk and sexually inappropriate with them at an after-work party.
The Star reported Reardon said that at the party, Hill “put his hands on her back, slid them down her back, put them under her clothes, and grabbed her buttocks.” She repeatedly told him to “back off,” but he came up to her later and again reached under her clothing, touching her against her will.
DaSilva, McLemore, and Lozano also encountered a reportedly drunken Hill that night, and all had similar tales of unwanted advances and inappropriate physical contact. He was also heard at the bar telling women they needed to “show a little skin” or “show more leg” if they wanted to get free drinks or faster service.
The same day, the four named women and their attorneys spoke with the press, saying that they were in the process of beginning possible civil lawsuits against Hill. The new vice chair of the Republican Attorneys General Association will join the chair of the same Republican law-and-order organization: Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. If you don’t remember Paxton, he’s facing a handful of indictments, with criminal penalties of up to 99 years in jail, for allegedly violating state securities laws.
“The chief law enforcement officer has a primary responsibility to protect the people," Hill said in a statement about the national post. "I’m proud to stand with Ken and the rest of my colleagues in working to elect more Republican AGs who will protect our communities and stand for the rule of law."
Hill will face a civil lawsuit being filed by the four women, while Paxton awaits state trial in his case. The Republican Party has called itself the party of law and order. We know that the Republican Party is to hypocrisy what the word “hypocrisy” is to hypocrisy, but it is still breathtaking to watch.
