Scott Lloyd, the anti-abortion zealot and Trump official tasked with heading the office caring for migrant kids, despite having zero experience caring for migrant kids, has been moved, and not to a prison for his role in family separation, but to the Health and Human Services (HHS) “Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, where he'll be a senior adviser,” Politico reports.
“Lloyd, a longtime anti-abortion advocate, is writing a book about his views on abortion, POLITICO reported last week. HHS has said that Lloyd’s personal beliefs have not influenced his leadership of its refugee office.” Odd, because he spent his time heading the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) trying to block abortion access for undocumented teens, including instructing ORR “to make pregnant minors undergo invasive and unnecessary ultrasounds and visit anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers,” Daily Kos’s Sarah Hogg wrote in May.
But Lloyd had extremism to spread all around, single-handedly prolonging the detention of hundreds of migrant kids, Huffington Post’s Roque Planas reported in July, by telling “subordinates last year that he’d have to personally sign off before any kids could be released from ORR’s secure facilities. As a result, hundreds of kids spent extra time in the jail-like facilities.”
Flash forward a few months later, and Lloyd “was effectively removed as refugee director this summer after his office struggled to care for and reunite thousands of migrant children who were separated from their families,” Politico continues. To date, officials continue to have separated kids in U.S. custody, in blatant violation of a federal judge’s order, and in harmful conditions. Typical for a know-nothing like Lloyd to fail upwards. He still needs to go.
“You can go back and check my comments on this: I’ve called for his resignation,” Congress member Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut said about Lloyd this past May in seeking his ouster from ORR. “I have no faith in him at all. I think his own ideological beliefs will get in the way of doing something effective.”
