Sure it's almost winter and yes the wildflowers are ending their cycle but there is still much to enjoy if one stops and takes the time to look.

The cover photo is the only one that has color, a wonderful red. It's meant to be an eye-catcher and hopefully stand out from a list of diaries and draw folks in. All the rest are shades of brown with remnants of their previous glorious colors. That this is sunny Florida, and often with bright blue skies, enhances the dullness. Not much more to say but I'll add notes here and there. Enjoy!
I’ve scattered locally sourced seeds of 4 or 5 Liatris (depends on who is looking). This genus is at the top of my list for most favorite — the tall spikes, the purple colors, the variations from one to the next. And pardon me for using the scientific names — it’s the way I learned them and Blazing-star or Gayfeather didn’t mean much to me.
and close-up of the above plant — the seeds do look a lot like L. gholsonii
more below the break
and closeup… The white edging the phylarries was a rosy red — a key to ID.
Onward to other wildflowers…
and one more, my favorite grass — Slender Indian Grass. The way I figure is it grows up 3-4 feet and leans over and hopefully snags any critter passing by with the seeds easily sticking tight.
No doubt I could wander out and find a few more — the
Chrysopsis is still flowering and seeding too; Evening Primrose has those long pods standing upright at the end of long stems and full of tiny black seeds when they tip over; and there’s lots of bushy
Symphyotrichum which I recently learned and struggle to pronounce or give up and call Aster. Anyways, thanks for stopping by and see you in the comments.
