And to start a Universal Basic Income for all. To start with we should give anyone over 28 years of age $2,000 per month. If there are seniors already on Social Security and they get more than that they would keep that level of income. The UBI would increase every year with the rate of inflation. One of the main reasons for this is that the average Social Security check is just over $1,400 per month. And in my job I see many seniors who get less than $800 per month. This means that far too many people do not participate in the economy. They can not take vacations, go out to dinner, or buy a new car. Raising their incomes to $2,000 per month would increase their spending power and that would help to expand businesses and many new businesses would be able to be started.
Any student who graduates high school would get $1,000 per month. This would be a powerful incentive for children to do well in school and many of them would be able to go to college or other types of education, such as trades. High school grads who go for further education would get an additional $250 per month to help pay for that education. Right now at West Chester University in Pennsylvania the 2018/2019 semester would cost just over $10,400. Housing is an additional $6,000 per year. The $15,000 they would get per year would pay almost all of their college costs and many students could finish without owing very much if at all when they graduate!
To pay for this we would start by using the $2.89 trillion that is in the Social Security trust funds. Companies and people would continue to pay their share of Social Security, but it would now be used for the UBI.
Is this perfect? Of course not, but lets get the democrats to consider a UBI somewhat like this. Also what do you think?
