Donald Trump is absolutely infuriated by the General Motors plan announced today to close up to five North American plants and cut up to 14,000 jobs. Donald Trump is infuriated by the General Motors plan because it makes Donald Trump look bad, and he's not going to take it.
Specifically, he's going to yell impotent things at the press pool.
"I was very tough. I spoke with her when I heard they were closing and I said, 'You know, this country has done a lot for General Motors,'" Trump told reporters at the White House, adding that he encouraged Barra to maintain GM's operations in Ohio. "You better get back in there soon."
And I told those kids, you'd better damn well get back on my lawn if you know what's good for you. I told them—wait, what were we talking about again?
Oh, but don't worry. Donald Trump has a plan. He has a plan, and all the rest of you idiots are going to feel like chumps when exposed to the brilliance of his plan, which consists of:
"They say the Chevy Cruze is not selling well," he said. "I say well then get a car that is selling well and put it back in."
There ya go. Problem solved, you morons. Make cars that sell better. Why the hell the entire U.S. auto industry can't think of these things on its own Donald will never know, but leave it to Casino Bankruptcy Guy to fix things up again. Wait, what if we mount a gatling gun on a Chevy Cruze and sell it to Saudi Arabia for a billion bucks per unit?
The reason Donald Trump is angry about all of this is, as I said, because it makes Donald Trump look bad. Donald Trump promised he would be bringing manufacturing back to the United States: instead, General Motors is leaving. Donald Trump promised his new regime of tariffs would do Good Things; instead, they are doing Bad Things. Since Donald Trump is never, ever wrong about anything, it must be everyone else who is screwing things up, so there you go.
A toothless demand to GM that they had "better get back in there soon" will, he hopes, patch things right up again.
