Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono (D. HI) in support of John Barrow’s (D. GA) Secretary of State campaign:
I am angry about this
Stacey Abrams had her election stolen from her after facing an unprecedented voter suppression campaign led by her opponent, who was Georgia’s Secretary of State.
The suppression was so brazen that even Stacey herself reportedly had trouble voting — and she was running for governor!
The good news is we have a chance to make sure this never happens again. There is going to be a runoff to select the next Secretary of State who will oversee elections in Georgia.
My good friend and former colleague John Barrow is running and, if elected, he would enforce the state’s voter laws fairly and ensure everyone can exercise their constitutional right to vote. That’s why I’m asking:
Will you split a donation of $3 to John Barrow’s campaign for Georgia Secretary of State, and to my grassroots campaign as I fight to protect your right to vote in Congress?
Early voting began in Georgia this week and we cannot rest until the right and ability to vote are safeguarded for every American. If we do not, our democracy will be lesser for it. We cannot let Republicans keep rigging or abusing our election laws to win — not with so much at stake in our government today. Thanks for stepping up for John.
Mahalo,
— Mazie
