I’m not saying that because I’m particularly enamored of the results mind you. *sideye FL.* I’m saying that because it is time for liberals to raise an issue nationwide and carry it to victory. The first Tuesday of every even numbered year should be a national holiday.
Mind you, the best way to increase the ease of voting is vote by mail. *sideye OR.* Realistically, we can not carry some national vote by mail drive through under the current political environment.
So how about making election day a national holiday? Let’s call it Civic Duty Day or some such appropriately patriotic moniker.
Having elections occur on working days with no accommodation for people to take time off is yet another vestigial constitutional mandate that depresses our voting power. That mandate quite literally favors the wealthy and powerful.
The burden placed on the working class by this onerous constitutional mandate to hold the election on a given workday is easily reversed by giving almost everyone that day off.
I understand that there are some elections that occur during odd numbered years *sideye VA.* I just think the idea of a national holiday for major elections should be a political winner, and I’ll bet Virginians wouldn’t mind shifting their oddball elections for the greater good!
Finally, to be entirely honest… I’m bashing this out on election night because I couldn’t handle refreshing the freaking page every 5 seconds, clinging to each percentage update… as though my screen were the unblinking eye of Sauron having caught me in his evil gaze from which there is no escape!
