The “Nobody Is Above The Law — Protect Mueller Rapid Response Action” is going live today, Thursday, November 8th, nationwide.
This diary is a comprehensive quick guide to the event.
The line has been crossed, the game’s afoot, the gloves are off and it’s Muellertime.
So far there are over 900 events nationwide organized and readied to go TODAY.
Here’s the game plan a coalition of 46 progressive organizations has had in place in the eventuality of interference by the Trump administration with the Mueller investigation that was triggered by Wednesday’s events:
If Trump fires Mueller or takes another action to end or seriously threaten the Trump-Russia investigation prior to 2 P.M. local time, rallies will occur at 5 P.M. local time that day; if network actions are triggered after 2 P.M. local time, rallies will occur at noon local time the following day.
* This is the general plan—please confirm details on your event page, as individual hosts may tailor their events to their local plan.*
The following are the red lines, which if crossed, trigger the call for national actions, communicated by national partners to hosts:
- Firing Mueller;
- Pardons of key witnesses;
- Actions that would prevent the investigation from being conducted freely, such as replacing Mueller’s current supervisor, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, or repealing the regulations establishing the office.
- The Mueller investigation releases findings showing significant wrongdoing by Donald Trump.
- Or Congress or the administration blocks the public from seeing Mueller's findings.
On Wednesday, by demanding the resignation of Attorney General Sessions and tweeting that Sessions would be replaced on an acting basis by Matthew G. Whitaker, the AG’s chief of staff, Trump is attempting an end-around of the authority of Acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
A Justice Department official said Whitaker would assume authority over the special counsel probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
This action crossed the red line.
From MoveOn.org:
Donald Trump just crossed a red line, violating the independence of the investigation pursuing criminal charges in the Trump-Russia scandal and cover-up.
Trump putting himself above the law is a threat to our democracy, and we’ve got to get Congress to stop him.
We're mobilizing immediately to demand accountability, because Trump is not above the law.
Mueller Firing Rapid Response - FAQ
MoveOn.org and Indivisible (among the other organizations in the coalition) are now initiating the long-prepared contingency plans for events, actions, assemblies and demonstrations to protect the Mueller/Russia investigation.
An excellent aggregate website for information regarding ongoing events scheduled by the coalition of 46 participating organizations can be found at “TrumpIsNotAboveTheLaw.org.”
Consider that the timing is not brilliant for Trump’s “Saturday Night Massacre” “Morning After the Mid-terms Massacre” like most of his fluster-clucks.
Democrats and Progressives have already prognosticated and organized for rapid response to meet this Constitutional crisis. Not to mention we’re only hours past our robust grass-roots successes in the mid-term election ground game. Our players are virtually still on the field. To ignite this nationwide action, we need simply go straight into overtime.
Coalition organizations have been preparing in case of a Constitutional crisis to bring immediate public pressure to bear to prevent the Trump administration from interfering with or dissolving the Robert Mueller’s Office of the Special Counsel.
This is where we come in.
Following on Wednesday’s #MidtermsMassacre, it is evident that the protection of the office of the special counsel is in imminent danger. Protecting the Mueller investigation is vital to not only to fact-finding and justice, but the stability and well-being of our democracy.
Most of the initial “Nobody is Above the Law — Protect Mueller Rapid Response” events are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, November 8th action, but please keep informed as to date and times as the crisis, and our counter-measures, develop.

Call Your Representatives — Call for Whitaker’s Recusal — Protect the Special Counsel
Indivisible has provided the page at this link to locate the phone number for your representatives. Call and tell them that “we the people” insist on Matthew Whitaker’s recusal.
Tell your MoC: Call for Whitaker to recuse himself
Trump just fired Jeff Sessions as Attorney General and replaced him with Matthew Whitaker. If you don’t know Matthew Whitaker, he’s a political hack who has spoken in great detail about ways to hurt the Mueller investigation.
It’s pretty obvious why Trump chose Whitaker. The Blue Wave flipped the House of Representatives into Democratic control, and Mueller is getting closer to the truth about Trump’s crimes and corruption. So he essentially replaced Mueller’s old boss (Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein) with a new boss that has no problem intervening and obstructing justice. You can learn more here.
This is a red line, and Trump just crossed it. Now it’s time to act. Tell your Member of Congress to publicly call for Matthew Whitaker to recuse himself from overseeing the Mueller investigation.
Note: The Members of Congress that you'll see when you enter your information at the Indivisible link provided above will reflect your representatives in the 115th Congress. Newly elected MoCs will appear after they are sworn in on January 3, 2019.
When You Call: Congressional Asks
- Demand members of Congress protect the special counsel’s office, including preserving its files and staff and ensuring it receives the full cooperation of all federal government law enforcement assets.
- Demand the creation of a modern-day version of the Senate Select Watergate Committee to investigate all matters involved in the Russia scandals and Trump's abuse of power and obstruction of justice.
- Demand bipartisan hearings in the House Judiciary Committee on obstruction of justice and abuse of power.
How to Organize Your Own Local “Trump Is Not Above The Law” Event
If you cannot find an event scheduled for your city, town or locality among the 900+ events, you can click HERE to sign up to organize an event. You’ll find an outline of how you organize an event, get support for your effort, and run a successful rapid response turnout in your area.
I’ve organized protests in the past with just a “committee of two” here in San Francisco, we interfaced with our police department and city officials, communicated our event to the public...and it’s easier than you might think...especially with help from the organizations sponsoring the event and by using the guidelines provided at this link.
If you decide to host an event, do not be shy about contacting the sponsoring organizations for assistance in putting together your local event. Hosting an event is an incredible way to give back to your community, learn about the people and issues in your area, and expand your scope of contacts.
It can be done surprisingly fast via social media. Think of it as a flash-mob(lization.)

A How-To Guide: Your Participation in Local Events and Peaceful Assembly
It is important if you plan on attending your local event that you are familiar with how to conduct yourself in peaceful demonstration. I’ve been involved in protests since my teens, back then in opposition to the Vietnam war. It was invaluable to us students to be instructed by our ACLU advisors regarding guidelines for peaceful and safe assembly conduct, and knowledge regarding our rights during protests.
Here are some guidelines offered by the event’s organizers that you should be aware of for safe and responsible protest conduct and picket signs:
