The Democrat who trails by 900 votes in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District is getting ready for a do-over on the election, if that’s where the Republican election fraud being uncovered there leads:
“We're gearing up right now in case we do have a special election. This is in the hands of the North Carolina State Board of Elections that’s launched an investigation,” Dan McCready said in an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
There’s evidence of organized absentee ballot fraud in Bladen County going back to 2010 and even the Republican incumbent in the 9th District seat alleged that he lost his primary to Mark Harris because of the “ballot stuffers in Bladen.” Harris denies wrongdoing, but his campaign paid Leslie McCrae Dowless, a Republican operative who had come under suspicion before now.
Real justice probably wouldn’t look like another election—it would look like striking all absentee ballots from the count in Bladen County and recontacting everyone who had asked for an absentee ballot and allowing them to vote again/for the first time. It might look like disqualifying Harris for the fraud his campaign bankrolled. But a special election would at least be something.
