First things first… I think that one of the goals of being human is to be happy.
I cannot define what happiness is… I think it differs from person to person.
Euphoria? Being at peace? Contentment? All come close, I guess to what happiness means… but then again we come to the point of having to define those words…. so I ask that you define happiness as you see fit.
Secondly in my experiences one does NOT need any religious beliefs to be happy. I have known many, many happy people who do not believe in any religion. Some of these people have labeled themselves Agnostics… others Atheists...others Humanists...etc. I have also known many people, be they Islamic, Jewish, Christian...etc.. who have stated that they are happy.
On the other hand I have known other people, both religious and people who do not believe, who state they are NOT happy.
There seems to be no causal nor corollary relationship between one’s stated belief system and happiness.
I have had numerous health problems recently, and still consider myself happy. Part of why I am happy is my Judaism. I find comfort and compassion with the religion and its traditions.
If I had a wish it would be that everyone, regardless of their backgrounds would be happy.
Thus the question.
