“Of course” Donald Trump knew it was wrong to make hush money payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal to benefit his own presidential campaign, Michael Cohen told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. Trump’s longtime personal attorney and all-purpose fixer expressed remorse for his own “blind loyalty” to Trump.
“I don't think there is anybody that believes” that Trump never told Cohen to do anything wrong, Cohen said. “First of all, nothing at the Trump organization was ever done unless it was run through Mr. Trump. He directed me to make the payments, he directed me to become involved in these matters.” Trump supporters should take note of Cohen’s take on Trump, which could be their future selves sending them a message:
“He knows the truth. I know the truth. Others know the truth,” Cohen continued. “And here is the truth: People of the United States of America, people of the world, don't believe what he is saying. The man doesn't tell the truth. And it is sad that I should take responsibility for his dirty deeds.”
Of course Trump’s fan base will never listen to this warning, even coming from someone who was known for his loyalty to Trump for years. But prosecutors are listening to Cohen when he says that Trump knew about the hush money payments and knew that it was wrong but did it anyway to protect his campaign.
