In 1863, placer gold was discovered in Alder Gulch in Montana and the rush to find the mother lode began. Nevada City and Virginia City soon became boom towns. Between 1945 and 1978 Nevada City was restored as a living historical museum which includes over 100 buildings, most of which were moved to this site from other Montana locations and restored. Today this is a living history museum. Shown below are some of the Nevada City Stores.
Applebound & Crabb Store
This log building came from the Burt Maynard Ranch near Ennis, Montana. It was featured as a general store in movies such as Little Big Man and Return to Lonesome Dove. It is stocked with goods reflecting the 1914 era.
Dry Goods Store
This building is furnished to represent a frontier ladies dry goods store from the turn of the century.
Tent Stores
In the mining camps, some merchants simply set up tents to display their merchandise.
