If there’s anyone people love more than former President Barack Obama, it’s Lin-Manuel Miranda. And just in time to amp up our holiday cheer (and distract from Trump’s government shutdown), the Broadway star has reworked a song from Hamilton just for Obama.
The song, a remix of “One Last Time,” was released on Friday. It includes Obama reciting a pretty famous passage from another important president—George Washington.
Specifically, Obama recites passages from Washington’s farewell address, accompanied by the singing of Christopher Jackson, who originated the role of Washington in the musical.
The lyrics include these lines from the farewell address:
“I anticipate with pleasing expectation that retreat in which I promise myself to realize, without alloy, the sweet enjoyment of partaking, in the midst of my fellow-citizens, the benign influence of good laws under a free government, the ever-favorite object of my heart, and the happy reward, as I trust, of our mutual cares, labors, and dangers.”

Obama and Miranda have a long history of friendship. When Obama was in office in 2009, Miranda performed “Alexander Hamilton” at a poetry jam at the White House. Towards the end of Obama’s presidency, Miranda came back with the original cast of Hamilton, and they performed “One Last Time.”
Hamilton is a Broadway hit that truly took the country by storm. With even President Obama featured in it, it’s a next-level cultural phenomenon.
