Incoming Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi gave an exclusive interview to USA Today accusing Individual 1 of using "scare tactics" and "being a fear monger" about the dangers of immigration.
"He talked about terrorists coming in over that particular border, which wasn't so. He talked about people bringing in diseases and all the rest of that, which wasn't so," said Pelosi, D-Calif., who is likely to become speaker after Democrats take over the House of Representatives next month. "He's using scare tactics that are not evidence-based, and it's wrong."
After Trump's stab last week at walking back his disaster with his beautiful Steel Slats and saying the United States needs "a wall, a fence, whatever they want to call it," Pelosi slammed Trump for the game-playing:
"First of all, the fact ... that he says, 'We're going to build a wall with cement, and Mexico's going to pay for it' while he's already backed off of the cement—now he's down to, I think, a beaded curtain or something, I'm not sure where he is," Pelosi said.
Ouch.
Trump apparently told Freedom Caucus rump president Mark Meadows that he's "firm" in keeping the government shut down until he gets his way. Given the source, that should probably be taken with a salt block. But with the House Democrats promising to return on January 3 and immediately get to work on ending the shutdown, it'd be advisable for Trump to cut his losses and end it now, before he has to go up against Pelosi head-to-head.
