Remember Individual 1's pre-election bribe to farmers, the $12 billion in emergency aid that was supposed to save them after his trade war with China? It was already doing little to help, but now it appears to be yet another casualty of Trump's shutdown.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is in charge of making those direct payments, and after this week, those payments will be suspended. Any farmers who haven't already certified production are just going to have to wait until the agency is back to work.
It's not just these payments, either. Farm loans and disaster assistance processed by the USDA will be halted, too. Could he be trying any harder to alienate rural America?
