What I’m hearing more than anything right now, is disgust at our Republican supermajority for:
Not Getting Things Done!
~no expansion of Medicaid
~no saving the rural hospitals
~no legalization of cannabis
~no decrease in college tuition
~no infrastructure plan
~no teacher wage increase
That’s what I'm hearing across my district (TN14th State Senate District) from people of all parties.
What I'm hearing from our Republican supermajority is:
constant boasting about our state budget surplus.
People are starved for health care, education, safe bridges to cross, and a living wage. A budget surplus is what you have left after these basic needs are met.
I’m sadly recognizing that almost every family in my district has in some way been affected by the Republicans inability to get anything meaningful done. I've been all around neighborhoods listening to the diverse voices in our communities who are fed up. They want change, they need change. They are desperate for change.
That probably why they’ve been helping my campaign with postcarding, phonebanking, canvassing, texting, and emailing. They are helping with fundraising, and building our local parties, county by county. We’re meeting in neighborhoods, listening to the diverse voices in our communities, and realizing that the issues of healthcare, education, and infrastructure affect everyone.
It’s working too! I’ve just been endorsed by Planned Parenthood.
This very red, rural district, seems ready to embrace (or at least accept) the Democratic Party's message of inclusivity, diversity, progress, innovation and fiscal responsibility. The idea of ethical leadership is resonating with the citizens in my district.
The days are flying past. I’m running out of time. I want to give hope as we face this identity crisis we appear to be having as a nation, state, and district.
I want to help my district by looking forward not backward. I want progress to be made. I want to help my district and Tennessee become less fearful (when did we become so fearful?) and celebrate and embrace positive change.
I think that change will be easier to accept when it improves people lives rather than adds to a “budget surplus”.
I can’t do it alone though. I need your help.
I’m Gayle Jordan and I’m running for State Senate in TN’s 14th district.
