Foreign Minster of Canada Chrystia Freeland reminded the guests at Ukrainian lunch event in Munich that reforms are needed not to please the Western partners, but to fulfill the needs of Ukraine as a state and Ukrainian citizens.
Chrystia Freeland stated:
Don’t do this for us. Reforms are needed for Ukrainians and for Ukraine … This is not some kind of favor that Ukraine should do to the West. Ukrainians should do this for themselves.
Perhaps the most debated and long awaited is the independent anti-corruption court law. It is intended to put more control at every branch of the the Ukrainian ruling elite. The anti-corruption court should be independent of Presidential, Parliamentary and Governmental control thus empowering the anti-corruption executive bodies. The law, according to the speaker of Ukraine’s Rada will be adopted in May. Andriy Parubiy has stated that all obstacles on the path of adoption are removed. The anti-corruption court is the key condition to renew the financial lifeline provided by IMF.
