In 1899, the first Athena Caledonian Picnic and Games were held. The event featured Scottish music, dancing, and sport. During World War I, the games were interrupted and in 1976 the Athena Caledonian Games were revived. They are currently held each year to help preserve the customs and history of Scotland through local Scottish descendants.
