I looked at this tweet and this photo:
and I thought back to Virginia Tech, where on April 16, 2007, 76 year old Liviu Librescu held the door of classroom so his students could get out through the windows, all but one of whom made it, and for his efforts was shot to death through the door by the gunman.
And I remembered these words from the Gospel of John, Chapter 15, Verse 13:
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
So grateful that Anthony Borges survived, although anyone who takes that action does so without regard for his or his own life.
As a teacher, I know I could face what these people did. I can only hope I would have their selflessness.
Peace.
