If you missed it when Donald Trump Jr. was made an official ambassador of the United States … you didn’t miss it. Because it didn’t happen. But that’s not stopping Son-of-Trump from delivering what is being billed as “a foreign policy speech” in the middle of a real estate trip.
Indian newspapers have been running full-page, glossy advertisements hyping his arrival and the latest Trump Tower project under the headline: “Trump is here — Are you Invited?” The ads also invited home buyers to plunk down a booking fee (about $38,000) to “join Mr. Donald Trump Jr. for conversation and dinner.” Public relations executives working with the two local developers arranging the Trump dinner declined to give specifics about the event.
Just how thoroughly is Trump Jr. mingling the business of the Trump Organization—which is still 100 percent owned by the other Donald Trump—with the foreign policy of the United States? About this thoroughly:
During the visit, the 40-year-old Trump, the executive vice president of the Trump Organization, will take a break from his private promotional tour to give an address on “Reshaping Indo Pacific Ties: The New Era of Cooperation” at a global business summit on Friday evening, co-sponsored by the Economic Times newspaper.
Another reminder that Trump has not divested himself of one dime of his organization, that none of his assets have been put in anything approaching a blind trust, and that the interest of Trump’s company continues to be placed ahead of the good of the nation.
“Trump’s company is literally selling access to the president’s son overseas,” said Jordan Libowitz, the communications director for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington ...
That’s okay. They sell access in the United States, as well. Just ask the folks at Mar-a-Lago.
While Trump himself hasn’t actually been behind any construction since his multiple casino failures drained his ability to get a loan from a legitimate source, there always seems to be someone who is ready to slap up those giant gold letters.
Amit Sharma, a spokesman for the Gurgaon developer, said that they had sold apartments worth nearly almost $70 million since the Gurgaon towers project launched in early January. The buildings, where flats run from $780,000 to $1.6 million, have private elevator service, in-residence catering and an indoor swimming pool.
It’s not clear just what Trump’s cut of this little deal might be, but it’s clearly enough to send Junior abroad and let him mangle U.S. positions. If the speech from Trump Jr. sounds like a harmless bit of fluff at at real estate meeting, India’s Prime Minister will also be there to deliver a speech.
With Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner still requesting stacks of top secret material while on his eternal “interim” clearance, and daughter Ivanka also listed as a White House “adviser,” it seems only logical that Donald Jr. should be ambassador to whoever is building something with Trump’s name on it.
