Update #2: One of the things interesting to me about this case is the docket number. It’s #31. Pinedo — the 20-something kid in LA who was selling fake IDs to help run the Russian troll farm — was docket #24, and yet that dropped on Friday along with the indictments of the 13 Russians and the troll farm itself, which was docket #32. Docket numbers are sequential, so what are the intervening docket numbers — e.g., what else is out there between #24 and #31 that might be coming down the pike?
So I did some investigation, and here’s the deal. ##25 and 27 are sealed cases; the others (##26, 28, 29, and 30) are garden-variety federal crime (guns, drugs, and human trafficking) that have nothing to do with the special counsel’s office. Sealed cases are rare and there are two of them here, in close proximity in time to three known special-counsel investigations. Sure, they could be unrelated, but personally I don’t believe in coincidences. I think Bobby Three Sticks has got a few more big presents being delivered in the days to come.
