We're going to save you the extended commentary on Trump's now-predicable weekend tweetstorm. Yes, it happened again. Yes, he still wants the Russia investigation shuttered. Yes, he still has little to no actual awareness of what his job is supposed to be, or what the constraints of the presidency are supposed to be, or even what the laws of the nation in which he lives might be. Yes, he's still preoccupied with watching Fox News, especially the parts of Fox News devoted to praising Donald J. Trump.
Let's cut to the chase.
This may be the most representative tweet of the small man's presidency. It is a straight quote of something he saw someone say on television. It is about himself. And it somehow swings into the conclusion that merely investigating allies of Donald Trump is, in his mind, "illegal." Why? Because he wants it to be, and because he is a very dumb man. His father may have been a concrete block.
The fascinating part about Donald Trump's response to the Schiff memo is that Donald here had the Schiff memo long before anyone else did. He's had it for weeks; granted, it was eleven pages long, but he could have read it at any time. It's not clear he did, given that he's only reacting to it now, after they've been talking about it on teevee. And there's that word again: "illegal".
But enough about me, sez Donald. What does a paying audience of the biggest conservative die-hards in the country, folks who sat giddily for speeches from a French fascist and a host of other puppet-show authoritarians, think of me?
Donald Trump did not take over the party, for the record. We watched it happen, for years; the party, and especially the CPAC conservatives, got dumber and angrier, and angrier and dumber, until finally a forever-lying grifting blowhard was the only natural choice to lead them.
The man ended DACA himself. He did it. It was his pen; it was his thick, stubby fingers. And he's trying to make himself out as the Good Guy.
Oh, here's a good one. What if we give bonuses to school teachers to carry guns and act as security guards, going after AR-15 holding gunmen so that we don’t have to bother with making any other changes to our laws, anywhere, at all?
Oooh, a bonus. Perhaps one that will pay for, well, not the actual required training, or for the gun itself, but a bonus.
This will never happen, because nobody in the Republican Party would spring for the bonuses. The Republican Party goes to great lengths each and every year to make sure schoolteachers do not get money; teachers' unions remain one of the great bugaboos of the party, one that national Republicans spend a good portion of every campaign year demonizing as greedy lazy do-nothings standing in the way of the fine Republican plan to sell off our public schoolchildren to the highest bidder. Our schools regularly do not have enough textbooks for all students, but we're going to be handing out bullet money? No. No, we are not. We don't even need to dwell on the obvious stupidity of the proposal, or the raw inhumanity of turning our children's schools into a "hardened" police state to counteract the grand Republican plan to make the entire rest of the country a free-fire zone, because the notion of paying teachers one thin dime to avoid paying security guards ten such dimes is a fever dream to begin with.
Anyway, Donald Trump remains a garbage human being who is forever focused on himself, and so forth. There are other tweets too, but there's only so much of this malignant narcissist's raging, rattling brain that any of us should be willingly exposed to. Oh, but one aside: Remember, we do not have to have respect for this man. We don't have to treat him with dignity, or even courtesy. He is pocketing cash via the presidency, he is demanding we ratchet our democracy into a would-be autocracy simply so he does not have to feel sad listening to criticism, he is stupid, he knows nothing, he has no ability to so much as sit down and read a page of text unless there are large pictures of himself in the margins to keep his interest, he has surrounded himself with crooks and dullards and is emotionally crippled by the slightest critique. He is a garbage fire in human skin, and until Republicans change the Constitution to forbid us from mocking him we are obliged by common decency to do so at every possible turn.
