Campaign Action
In the wake of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, public support for gun control has reached record highs, with 67 percent of Americans in favor of a ban on assault weapons.
Polling like that has members and executives of the National Rifle Association sweating, as evidenced by a conversation on a message board for Texas gun advocates. The topic was “Can it be?: We may lose more gun rights under Trump than Obama?” and NRA board member Charles Cotton jumped into the conversation, responding to users who are angry at the idea of gun reform happening while Donald Trump is in the Oval Office. Cotton was conceding the bump stocks ban may happen because “we’ve never had this level of opposition before, not ever.” (Insert clapping here.)
Cotton then went on to complain that gun reform advocates, many of whom are survivors of mass shootings, are “playing on the sympathy factor of kids getting killed.” For real. He’s angry that people are angry about their children and/or classmates being needlessly gunned down right in front of them.
I'm so sick of buzz phrases. No one is "giving up" anything, but the reality is we could well see bump-stocks "taken away" because the votes are probably there. Wake up people and see what's happening!!!! Bloomberg and Hollywood are pouring money into this effort and the media is helping to the fullest extent. We've never had this level of opposition before, not ever. It's a campaign of lies and distortion, but it's very well funded and they are playing on the sympathy factor of kids getting killed.
If you really want to make a difference, then start recruiting NRA members every single day. The NRA better be 15 million strong soon, or this is only going to get worse.
And how did other NRA members react to Cotton’s comment? They jumped right on that deplorable train.

When the Democrats primary "ammuniton", racism fails they fall back to #2... "Think of the Children!" The sad truth is it has been a successful strategy thus far.
“Think of the children!” Right. How dare we gun law reform advocates consider the children? How dare we think of the 20 first-graders murdered in a classroom? How dare we think of the more than 500 concertgoers shot at a country music concert in Las Vegas? Who are we to think of the 17 teens and teachers killed by a former classmate with a history of mental illness and unfettered access to weapons of war? Just who in the hell do we think we are?
We are the vast majority. We are sickened by these mass murders and we will not take ‘no’ for an answer. Here is more on the increasing support for gun law reforms, from NBC News:
Sixty-six percent of Americans want stricter gun control laws — the highest level recorded by Quinnipiac University since it started polling the issue after Sandy Hook.
Support for tougher gun laws in the poll released Tuesday has jumped almost 20 points since December 2015. It also found a ban on assault weapons was backed by 67 percent of those surveyed.
"If you think Americans are largely unmoved by the mass shootings, you should think again," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, which began polling on gun control after the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012.
Shoutout to Shannon Watts of Moms Demand Action for finding this deplorable conversation.
