The presumptive Republican nominee for Illinois' 3rd Congressional District, a Chicago-area seat currently held by Rep. Dan Lipinski, is a genuine, straight-up Nazi.
Arthur Jones — an outspoken Holocaust denier, activist anti-Semite and white supremacist — is poised to become the Republican nominee for an Illinois congressional seat representing parts of Chicago and nearby suburbs.
“Well first of all, I’m running for Congress not the chancellor of Germany. All right. To me the Holocaust is what I said it is: It’s an international extortion racket,” Jones told the Chicago Sun-Times.
The Republican and "former leader of the American Nazi Party" would not ordinarily stand a chance, even in a party that now carries water for accused child molesters and a candidate who punched a reporter whose question he didn't like. But the GOP fielded no other candidate in this safe Democratic district and so Arthur Jones, Nazi, it is.
These things happen from time to time, and we are not supposed to make too much of it; crackpots and worse have made it onto the ballots in the various states with some regularity after one of the two parties gives up on the notion of fielding anyone not, you know, insane. And that does not even count the ones that get there on their own "merits"—ahem David Duke. We are, however, supposed to give credit to the Illinois Republican Party for directly opposing his candidacy, which in this particular year and under the leadership of this particular president is, after all, not a given. So kudos for that, Illinois powers that be.
This isn't the first time the state party has dealt with Jones; he has run seven times before, according to the Sun-Times, and was removed from this same race just last election cycle after party lawyers successfully challenged his petitions. One would have hoped that the party would have learned its lesson and this year put up any other random district Republican as their sacrificial candidate, but there were no takers. And so the Republican ballot position will display the name of a prominent local Nazi supporter.
He will be running against either Democratic incumbent Dan Lipinski or, preferably, his Democratic primary challenger Marie Newman, who we have endorsed at this site. If you would like to see that happen, you can donate money to Newman's campaign here.
We really don’t have much time left: Please give $3 to Marie Newman so she can oust conservaDem Dan Lipinski.
