There is great concern by the Trump legal team that Donald Trump might perjure himself, if called to testify before Robert Mueller.
His lawyers are concerned that the president, who has a history of making false statements and contradicting himself, could be charged with lying to investigators.
His lawyers are not the only ones concerned. His supporters, like Rush Limbaugh, are also advising Trump to stay away from Mueller, based on the understanding that he will make stuff up.
It seems to me that this is a process crime/perjury trap. And if I were Trump’s lawyers, I wouldn’t let him get anywhere near this! In the first place, Trump improvises as he goes.
Watergate prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks put it best last night, when she said this on MSNBC’s The 11th Hour:
What does it say that we are talking about he’s going to lie? This is ridiculous. I mean the assumption that everyone is making is that he cannot possibly answer questions before a grand jury or before the prosecutors and not get himself in trouble for perjury. That is a scary fact to me. That he cannot be trusted to tell the truth.
Most people understood that Donald Trump was a pathological liar before he was elected to the presidency … most people knew that he lacked the basic vestiges of a moral compass ... most people knew that Donald Trump was a racist before he entered office … and, yet, with all of this history, he was voted into this nation’s most powerful office.
When the toxic dust settles on the Trump calamitous presidency, the deafening echo that will reverberate throughout history is the privilege that he was accorded to run roughshod over this nation and the world.
