Thanks need to go to the kids at Marjory Stonman High, of Parkland, Florida, for speaking out about gun violence. They know first hand about what damage a gun can do to a human body and a person’s soul. It stays with you.
I know now what I speak of. I'm still haunted by the night I spent cowering in the basement of the house we were living at. We were huddled in the dark basement, as the noise of gunfire headed north, going up the street our backyard behind us. It happened nearly fifty years ago, when I was in grade school.
One major difference between that time and today is, the adults are listening to what the kids are saying. The Riots in Kansas City were a product of adults not listening to the kids. The kids back then wanted one day off school, to mourn the shooting of Martin Luther King.
The reason why I'm writing this, is to encourage the kids of today to continue speaking out. Your words are being heard more now than ever before and keep it up. We adults need to be adding our voices to those kids who are speaking out.
We need common sense gun laws. I'm not for overturning the Second Admendment but for strong background checks, like the majority of the United States want.
