After the murder of 17 high school students in Parkland, Florida, one month ago, Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana roundly dismissed student calls for reforms to the nation's gun laws.
"I don't think we need more gun control laws," Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana told CNN's John Berman Tuesday.
"Not a single one?" Berman asked.
"No. I think we need more idiot control," he said, referring to people who perpetrate mass shootings.
On Monday night, a puppy died on a domestic United Airlines flight after it was placed, on apparent instructions from a flight attendant, in an overhead bin. By Wednesday, Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana had written the airline to "demand an immediate explanation." He promised immediate legislation, and followed up this morning by filing the Welfare Of Our Furry Friends (WOOFF) Act, banning the placement of animals in those overhead compartments.
"I don't particularly enjoy having to legislate, or trying to legislate, common decency," Kennedy said. "But by God, I'm going to do it until they take this seriously."
At last, something that motivates Sen. Kennedy to legislate common decency.
