“To whom it may concern as of Friday the 28th of this month tent city will no longer exist please tell your friends and family and everybody involved that tent city is no longer there and there will be no assistance available here I'm sorry to do this-this is ordered by the city of Anderson have a good day God bless everybody who helped thank you Nick Pancol”
This was on my feed on Facebook today and it saddened me greatly. And my town is not the only city or town doing this. What do people expect for these “people” to do or where do they go? Just evicting them is not an answer to a growing problem.
Churches are being stopped from feeding the homeless, homeless shelters are full every night and there is more homeless every day and the shelters have to turn people away. Then you have those who have been done wrong by church-based centers that will not trust a center for anything. people are dying sleeping in cars and being arrested for sleeping on the public street in their cars. towns have outlawed tent cities and sleeping in cars. LA just enacted a law stopping sleeping along the city street. they also are stopping the homeless with mobile mini houses and confiscating the houses and destroying them.
America this is uncalled for, thousands of homes sit empty in every city and they could be the answer to the problem. Instead of the city tearing them down costing millions, refurbish them and let a homeless person own a home and let them help fix it up. then find them a job so they can be a productive member of the community. Get them health care and mental care if needed. I don’t have all the answer for this. but I know that how the Citys, county's, and states are taking this on is not the right way.
Then you also have the homeless veterans from our wars back even to Vietnam. That the defense department and VA have just looked the other way about their care and mental status. The government says there care about our military personnel. But it seems that is only until they get killed or the time of their enlistment is over. then thank you and now go the fuck away is how it rolls from DC down to local VA centers.
Many veteran groups and even nonveterans are trying to help them but are running into government BS and red tape. This also whats going on like here the city and county are being asses about it.
