I have found a fascinating tidbit of information going through the records for the “CEO of Cambridge Analytica” Alexander Nix on the Companies House register for England and Wales. His full name is Alexander James Ashburner Nix (I kid you not).
Nix is listed as the sole shareholder of Cambridge Analytica(UK) Ltd and no other with Cambridge in its name. This company is registered with Companies House under number 09375920 as an “active company” however under “Nature of business”, there is “99999 - Dormant Company”. This is confirmed when you look at the Filing History tab.
The company was incorporated on January 6, 2015 under the name “SCL USA Limited” (.pdf) but on 14 April 2016, the name was changed to Cambridge Analytica(UK) Limited (.pdf) by resolution of the board — which consisted of Nix. He made a declaration that “being the sole member of the Company eligible to vote” that a resolution to change the name was to be made. He signed this “for and on behalf of SCL Elections Limited”. That is not surprising as its Annual Return dated May 2016 when the company was already declared “dormant” show that SCL Elections were the sole shareholder. Nix is shown as having no shares which suggests he sold them to SCL Elections.
It looks like the SCL group of companies is using the name Cambridge Analytica as a “trading name” in much the same way that a multi-national might split its divisions.
There is a lot more trawling to go through the many Companies House records and returns to “follow the money” — for example the annual accounts for the year 2016 for “SCL Group Limited” show it had an average of 5 members of staff that year.
