Donald Trump may have recently declared how "VERY happy" he was with his legal team, but his lead attorney on the Russia investigation is now running for the hills. The New York Times writes:
The president’s lead lawyer for the special counsel investigation, John Dowd, resigned on Thursday, according to two people briefed on the matter, days after the president called for an end to the inquiry.
Mr. Dowd, who took over the president’s legal team last summer, had considered leaving several times in recent months and ultimately concluded that Mr. Trump was increasingly ignoring his advice, one of the people said. Mr. Trump has insisted he should sit for an interview with the special counsel’s office, even though Mr. Dowd believed it was a bad idea.
Let’s face it, proving to be the sanest among Trump’s lawyers is a low bar. The idea that Trump would ever have the impulse control to follow legal advice was a fool’s notion to begin with. But Dowd has apparently concluded that he doesn’t want to be anywhere near this train wreck anymore.
Don’t worry though, Trump is reportedly making another sound addition to his legal time—some guy he likes watching on TV.
But when all is said and done, Trump should just trust his own instincts—definitely take that sitdown with Robert Mueller.
