Kansas State Senator Steve Fitzgerald is known to have a very, very strong anti-abortion view. In the campaign to replace retiring US House Member Lynn Jenkins (KS-02), Fitzgerald told crowds he was the “pro-life warrior” that the district needed.
Well, part of that war, is continuing his old gambit of comparing abortion to Nazi concentration camps. Last night, in a debate over fetal tissue, Sen. Fitzgerald went one step farther, comparing Republican Senator Barbara Bollier of being like Josef Mengele.

When Bollier challenged Fitzgerald on the amendment, he responded by comparing Bollier’s rationale to that of Nazi Germany and Josef Mengele, who performed medical experiments on concentration camp prisoners at Auschwitz.
"She brought up the same rationalization that was used by the Nazis," Fitzgerald said.
Fitzgerald’s amendment would ban research support of any kind from the state into tissue samples from abortions. Senator Bollier (R), speaking from the floor, noted that in some cases, where deformity or lack of viability results in the need for abortion services, study on why that came about may be desired by the family and could be an important part of research into causes.
Senator Bollier’s response led to Fitzgerald referring to her as Josef Mengele in reasoning.
But, her reason, coming from a Doctor, has real validity. Individuals who find that children are not viable due to other issues may want to discover what caused significant defects or fetal death, and tissue studies are often a way to find out.
Planned Parenthood, noted that Candidate Fitzgerald’s commentary was out of bounds, and Senator Fitzgerald went back on the attack:
Fitzgerald stood by his comments in an interview Wednesday morning, the day after the debate. He is running for Congress in Kansas’ second congressional district.
"I expect the devil to do what the devil always does," he said after being shown Planned Parenthood’s comment.
Fitzgerald, running for Congress could face Paul Davis in the 2018 election to fill an empty seat.
