Monday night, Donald Trump railed against the legal search of his personal lawyer’s office and home and against Special Counsel Robert Mueller, leaving the door open to firing Mueller. Tuesday, top Senate Republicans are still insisting that Trump won’t fire Mueller rather than taking action to prevent him from doing so:
It’ll be suicide! There’ll be serious repercussions! But Republicans won’t get specific about what those repercussions will be, and they won’t take a simple action—voting through a bill that already exists to prevent Trump from unilaterally firing Mueller for an illegitimate reason—to avoid having to go through with those repercussions. Possibly because they know they will never go through with it no matter what Trump does.
