Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has overseen the Special Counsel investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election. He was given the role after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself due to his own role in the Trump campaign. If Rosenstein were fired, Donald Trump could handpick a replacement who could then shut down the entire investigation before the American people get the truth.
Unfortunately, Rosenstein is telling colleagues that he expects to be fired at any moment. And he is leaking this information in an obvious signal to Donald Trump and the United States Congress that they need to take action right now protect the investigation and the rule of law in this country.
