On March 11, 2018 he repeated it: "Sleepy eyes Chuck Todd, he's a sleeping son of a bitch," the president said at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.”
Sounded weird, right? Chuck Todd’s eyes aren’t particularly “sleepy.”
He is, however, Jewish.
Tonight, reading Stonkettle’s tweets, I learned “sleepy eyes” is an anti_Semitic slur:
Apparently, if you have the stomach to google “how to spot a Jew,” you’ll find places like Stormfront listing certain facial characteristics, such as nose, skull shape, and also “sleepy eyes.”
So there are three possibilities:
1. It’s a complete coincidence. (happening twice we know of)
2. Trump used it knowingly (because there are “good people on both sides”).
3. Trump unknowingly integrated it into his vocabulary from e.g., his father, his son, Bannon, Gorka or other anti-Semites he hung out with.
