Received this e-mail today from Governor Kate Brown’s (D. OR) re-election campaign:
Friend,
When the Trump administration added citizenship to the census questions, Oregon jumped into action.
Adding this question will likely discourage immigrant communities from participating in the census.
The census determines Oregon’s representation in government, and it’s the bedrock of our democracy. That’s why the State of Oregon has joined with more than twenty states and cities in suing the Trump administration for this action.
It seems like we are constantly playing defense against the chaos and incompetence from D.C. Republicans, from National Park fees to federal rollbacks of net neutrality. But in the midst of it all, we can’t forget to stand up for accurate representation and the integrity of the census.
We can’t let the public pressure fall. Friend, add your name to tell the GOP: Don't rig the 2020 census!
With a President who has tried to build a border wall and pass a Muslim travel ban, it makes sense that immigrant communities are frightened and hesitant to trust government.
But Trump’s America doesn’t line up with Oregon values. We need to send the message that Oregonians are opposed to adding the citizenship question. Add your name -- tell Republicans in Washington, D.C. to unrig the census!
We’ll keep up the pressure on our end. Glad we’re in this together.
