Democrats seem to be having that debate as a party right now.
Let’s call the progressives people who want things like free college tuition and single-payer healthcare. And let’s call the moderates people who want more iterative improvements in these categories.
Let’s assume both agree more or less on things like gun control and environmental protections.
On the side of the charismatic moderates, they can cite Conor Lamb, Doug Jones, and Steve Bullock, and, on the other hand, note the poorer-than-Hillary showings of progressives Zephyr Teachout and Russ Feingold. And there’s also Jon Ossoff’s unfortunate loss.
On the side of the progressives, you have of course Bernie’s spectacular success, and the enormous energy generated by the resistance as a whole.
