Darletta Scruggs vs Neil Cavuto
I love this so much. We need to all watch this, politicians and would-be politicians most of all.
On the subject of public funding for higher education, young activist Darletta Scruggs refuses to debate Fox News talking points, refuses to fall for rhetorical traps, refuses to engage with strawmen. She simply lays out her case and lays out the facts. And bereft of his usual rhetorical refuges, Neil Cavuto just sort of folds. It is beautiful to witness. I am absolutely positive that Fox News thought they were getting a flaky and uninformed, wild-eyed black girl to talk over and laugh at. That’s not what they got.
The young activists of today know how to do this. They don’t defend or explain. They stand and let you know they are here, and they won’t apologize for their values, and they’re not going anywhere. This is what made the Parkland rally so incredibly powerful and refreshing to me, and I see it again here. This is what I’m seeing in embryonic form in my own local community. Facts, and values. “They” might not want to listen, but they’re sure going to hear, aren’t they?
Watch this and get inspired.
(And please, for the love of everything you believe in, please do not turn this into a stupid debate on flippin’ Bernie Sanders, or socialism, or BLM, or even publicly financed college. That’s not what this diary is about. (It’s not even how I came across this video.) It’s about how Darletta Scruggs handles a dishonest debater. Thank you.)
And since I am failing utterly at providing images for this diary so far, here’s a video of a different black woman who is likewise offering no apologies.
