Trump in his Michigan speech yesterday thought he was being clever by commenting on the Russian lawyer news of her working for the FSB/GRU.
His desperation overshadows his flaccid attempt to use the House Intelligence Committee report for exoneration. Cross-purposes abound since you cannot claim ‘no collusion’ while colluding.
Trump projected directly (without identifying himself as a chaos agent since that would require reflection) his own role acting as a chaos agent, stating that the Trump Tower lawyer was Putin’s own chaos agent.
Trump weighed in on reports of Kremlin ties to Russian lawyer at Trump Tower meeting by trying to re-frame it as a response to Trump’s ‘aggressive actions against Russia.
Such a claim is laughable considering the sandbagging on sanctions and other intransigence by Trump’s WH.
And then there’s the lies about contact, communication, and collusion considering that Trump (or Junior) have had meetings with the same lawyer since he first met her 2013 in Las Vegas.
At a rally in Michigan on Saturday, Trump said, "I guarantee you, I'm tougher on Russia. Nobody ever thought. In fact, have you heard about the lawyer?
For a year, a woman lawyer, she was like, 'Oh, I know nothing.' ... Now all of a sudden she supposedly is involved with government. You know why? If she did that,
because Putin and the groups said, 'you know this Trump is killing us. Why don't you say that you're involved with government so that we could go and make their life in the United States even more chaotic.' Look at what's happened. Look at how these politicians have fallen for this junk. Russian collusion. Give me a break."
"Let's cut to the chase: A U.S. campaign is considering accepting information about another candidate, not only from a foreign entity but from a foreign entity that is the most significant rival to America in Europe and elsewhere," Mudd said on "The Lead" with host Jake Tapper. "Whether or not it breaks the law — and it would, I think, if Don Jr. had acquired that information—"
Tapper interjected: "Which he says he did not, for the record."
"That's correct," Mudd said. "But we're talking about legalities! I don't think it's that complicated. Why are politicians, whether they're Democrats or Republicans, bringing people into an office who represent a foreign adversary, and they're saying: 'I encourage you to acquire information about my adversary, Hillary Clinton, and if you do, I want it.' That's encouraging influence in an American election — I don't understand it."
Details of Cohen’s possible trip to Prague first publicly emerged in a dossier, which alleges collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, compiled by the former British spy Christopher Steele.
The dossier said Cohen visited Prague to “clean up the mess” resulting from damaging revelations about former campaign adviser Carter Page’s and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s Russia ties.
The document cited a “Kremlin insider” as saying that there were “clandestine meeting/s between Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s lawyer Michael COHEN and Kremlin representatives in August 2016.”
“The Kremlin insider clearly indicated to his/her friend that the reported contact/s took place in Prague, Czech Republic,” it said.
The document further alleges Cohen met with individuals linked to the Russian government, including Konstantin Kosachev, a member of Russia’s parliament, and Oleg Solodukhin, who works with the Russian Center for Science and Culture.
It also claims Cohen, Kosachev, and others, including Romanian hackers, discussed “how deniable cash payments were to be made to hackers in Europe who had worked under Kremlin direction against the Clinton campaign,” and ways to “sweep it all under the carpet and make sure no connection could be fully established or proven.”
