Two performers took to the stage Saturday evening. Both of them spoke about politics. One drew a firestorm of criticism from the media over some harsh remarks—our own Hunter noted that “the fainting couches were rolled out.” Take a look at his rant; I wouldn’t dare try to match it. What I want to do here is highlight what the other one said on stage, remarks that didn’t even make it into the coverage in the New York Times or Politico.
"A vote for a Democrat in November is a vote for open borders and crime," Trump
said.
He continued, "The open border policies of the Democratic Party are not just wrong, they're dangerous, and they're in fact deadly. They're deadly."
Meanwhile, GOP bigwigs like American Conservative Union chair Matt Schlapp put the back of their hand to their foreheads over some jokes and insults laid down by comedian Michelle Wolf.
On the one hand, a comic made fun of the White House press secretary’s eye makeup, not to mention her own hair. On the other hand, the president of the United States sought to delegitimize and even dehumanize the opposing party in our democracy by saying that they want Americans to die—not to mention continuing his years-long effort to dehumanize immigrants, particularly those coming from Mexico. I’ll leave it to you to decide which one of the two is more worthy of the media’s opprobrium.
