Received this e-mail today from Khizr Khan in support of Randy “Ironstache” Bryce’s (D. WI-01) campaign:
By now, many of you know my family's story.
My family and I emigrated from Pakistan to the United States where we settled down. Years later, our now adult son, Humayun, decided to enlist in the army to give back to the country that had given us so much.
In 2004, Humayun was deployed to Iraq. Just 120 days into his tour of duty, Humayun was inspecting a guard post when he noticed a suspicious car. He ordered the troops under his command to stay away from the vehicle while he walked towards it.
That car was a suicide bomb. My son was killed in the blast.
Humayun's actions that day stopped the car from reaching the installation gates of his base and the nearby mess hall where hundreds of soldiers were eating.
My son died a hero to our country -- the United States of America. And when I hear Republicans like Donald Trump talk about trying, explicitly, to ban Muslims from this great country, disparaging the ultimate sacrifice of many men and women like my son.
I believe in this country. A nation founded on the idea that everyone deserves the right to chase the American Dream, regardless of race, gender, religion, economic status, or anything else politicians like Donald use to try and divide us.
I'm going to keep speaking out, and supporting leaders like Randy Bryce who will fight for the right of all of us to chase the American Dream. If you're with me, Randy, and hundreds of millions of our fellow Americans, chip in $3, or whatever you can, to help Randy keep fighting for an America that represents all of us.
Randy is a special type of leader. One who fights for everyone, not just the people who look like him.
He spoke out against Trump's Muslim Ban. He got arrested protesting in support of a clean DREAM Act. He's put forth comprehensive policies to help people in this country who haven't been helped by our government in a long while.
At a time when so many pundits are telling people like Randy running in Republican-leaning districts to stay quiet and do the "safe thing," Randy speaks out. Not because it's easy, not because it's convenient, but because it's the right thing to do.
We need more leaders like Randy.
I'm proud to support Randy Bryce for Congress, and I hope you are too. So join Randy and me and chip in $3 to help Randy win this Republican-leaning seat running on the values that made this country great: giving all of us the opportunity to chase the American Dream.
Thank you,
Khizr Khan
Proud American
