I recently read Teacherken’s blog entry about aging, though I read it a while after it was posted. One of the topics he touches on is hearing loss.
It’s well known that hearing aids are pricey, though I didn’t know until recently exactly how shockingly pricey, particularly when the manufacturing costs are probably less than fifty dollars.
I had just watched a video on YouTube of Robert Reich interviewing Elizabeth Warren about contemporary legislative processes, in which the first seven or eight minutes consists of her story about how prices got so high, and how legislation was recently passed to start dealing with this situation. She worked with Chuck Grassley, someone who usually does not enjoy a high level of support on this site.
I linked to it in a comment in Teacherken’s post, but I doubt many people saw it, so I’m making a separate blog entry to highlight it. This could be huge for the large population that can benefit from hearing aids. It’s also interesting for what it takes to get actual bipartisan legislation passed. It’s here:
