So rural counties, in response to state gun laws, are setting up “sanctuary counties” for guns. I’m not kidding...they feel new age restrictions as well as waiting periods disregard the proud tradition of firearm use outside the city and its suburbs. My eyes are rolled so far back in my head I don’t need a rear view mirror. From the article:
A new push for gun control in Springfield, Illinois’ capitol, had David Campbell feeling angry and powerless.
“It’s time to take stand,” he told himself.
Campbell, a small print shop owner who is a member of the Effingham County Board in rural southern Illinois, was upset that Chicago-area lawmakers 200 miles away were seeking statewide curbs on gun buying. He felt the proposed measures, including raising the age and lengthening the waiting periods for purchasing certain semi-automatic weapons, disregarded the proud tradition of firearm use outside the city and its suburbs. So he did the only thing he could: He wrote a resolution.
That’s right...those dang libruls are pushing us around with their laws designed to make the USA safer for everyone!
Before long, counties across southern Illinois began passing their own versions of the resolution — 16 at last count.
A full-blown backlash was underway, mirroring others that have sprouted in parts of America where rural citizens feel pushed around by metropolitan gun control advocates.
Never mind that rural areas (with Russian “assistance”) helped put our orange nightmare in the Oval Office...they’re losing power so they have to do something to save their precious penile extensions.
“Rural areas are losing political power because of population decline, and urban and suburban communities want to come up with solutions to gun violence that infringe on the ways of life of rural areas, and that ticks us off,” Kibler said.
I don’t want to push the limits of fair use, but basically the article goes on to discuss how gun rights scholars feel these local measures are meaningful, whereas people who know something about the law state these measures won’t do anything. It also discusses the ability, power, and willingness of local law enforcement to actually enforce these silly bills that are simply designed to be a thumb in the eye of the libruls. There’s also concern about enforcement making county governments susceptible to lawsuits.
And a whole lot more...just read for yourself the ridiculousness of this!
What I take issue with is the implication that sanctuary cities are set up to protect undocumented immigrants...which they are not. What they are saying is they will not allocate limited local resources to assisting federal agents in pursuing those undocumented immigrants. They are not ignoring the law, they are saying the federal government is free to do as it does, but they are not going to have local police chasing down and/or reporting undocumented immigrants. Assisting the federal government in this pursuit takes them away from their regular duties, which makes a community LESS safe.
And of course the irony in all of this is if crimes go unpunished because local police are too busy dealing with undocumented immigrants, the same people who want them helping with that issue will be screaming their fool heads off that the police “aren’t doing anything about other crimes”.
This, to me, is why it’s dangerous to use the term “sanctuary cities”. It is grossly misleading, but then again, that’s what the creators of that term fully intended when they came up with it.
