Hear me out.
Democrats should be boosting Antonio Villaraigosa. Gavin Newsom has a top two spot locked up at this point. The goal now should be shutting out the Republicans entirely of the governor’s election. If Newsom and Villaraigosa finish top two, then Republicans will have no statewide candidate for governor and likely not for the Senate either. This would be devastating for Republicans in the state, as this would almost certainly lower turnout among Republicans in the state, as they have very little to vote for. The benefits of this for Democrats trying to take back the House would be enormous.
Obviously the biggest concern in California is making sure this doesn’t happen to Democrats in several districts (39, 49, 48). But this should also be a priority. Dems really haven’t made enough of an effort where this is concerned.
