Here’s a quick reminder of the reality of John McCain; because of his highly agressive cancerous brain tumor, Senator McCain returned to Arizona for treatment on December 17, 2017, and has not returned to Washington to vote on any legislation since. In effect, he has left half the citizens of Arizona without representation for that long.
Reasonable people might ask “Well, if he’s dying of cancer and is unable to fulfill the duties of his office, why doesn’t he retire to allow a temporary replacement to be appointed?”. A very good question, and it’s something that a patriotic, decent man who pretends to act for the good of his country would do. But that’s not John McCain, phony patriot and maverick, but actually a full-blown Republican Party hack. And here’s why;
Because of Arizona election laws, if John McCain had left office before TODAY, May 30th, his Senate seat would have been up for election this upcoming November 2018, during what many believe and hope will be a time for a nationwide Democratic Blue Wave across the country. BUT now that McCain has held onto his seat with a literal death grip, whatever replacement Governor Doug Ducey appoints to that seat will occupy it until November 2020. And anyone who knows Arizona and Gov. Ducey knows that he will appoint a true Teahadist extremist.
So instead of allowing the people of Arizona a choice and chance to elect either a less-than-extremist Republican, or even (God forbid!) a DemoCRAT, John McCain has now officially abandoned whatever claim he might have once had to being Country Over Party, and bowed down to lick the boots of Bosses Trump (who viciously ripped him again at a political rally today www.nbcnews.com/… ) and McConnell as a good lapdog should, and allowed the extremist arm of the Republican Party to continue to rule unchallenged for at least 2 more years.
So please remember this, John McCain’s final act in office, when you wax poetic about how unselfish, patriotic, and maverick-y he was in his time in office. It night have been times of good news for him, but it was ultimately bad news for the rest of us.
