The Wall Street Journal reports that Trump lawyers managed to only get two questions in during a four-hour practice session for a possible Mueller interview. Those outtakes might resemble those subpoenaed NBC Apprentice tapings.
But that was yesterday, and today at 2pm ET, there is a likelihood of an announcement to withdraw from the current JCPOA Iran agreement.
The creation of more chaos can never be a substitute for actual diplomacy, but Trump seems to be committed to it if only because it attacks PBO policy. The long-run beneficiary will include Russia.
But if the agreement collapses, Iran has said it could restore uranium-enriching capability quickly, putting it closer to the weapons path. Iranian officials also have hinted they could renounce the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which presumably would lead to the expulsion of International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors and enable Iran to proceed with far more secrecy.
The new details from the behind-the-scenes struggle over the 2015 deal have emerged as it reaches a critical point. Donald Trump said on Monday that he would announce on Tuesday his decision on whether to continue to abide by the agreement, which is enshrined in a 2015 UN security council resolution, or potentially violate it by reintroducing sanctions on Iran.

“The whole point of negotiations is to not play dirty tricks like this.”
Jack Straw, who as foreign secretary was involved in earlier efforts to restrict Iranian weapons, said: “These are extraordinary and appalling allegations but which also illustrate a high level of desperation by Trump and [the Israeli prime minister] Benjamin Netanyahu, not so much to discredit the deal but to undermine those around it.”
Trump still tries to find reasons other than regime change… expect a stunt today.
