Donald Trump loves to have a black or brown person to target, and so he’s taking aim once again at Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), this time with an implicit threat of violence wrapped in two lies. Over the weekend, Waters urged protesters at a Los Angeles rally to disrupt the comfortable lives of top Trump administration officials over family separation and his other anti-immigrant policies. “We want history to record that we stood up, that we pushed back, that we fought,” Waters said. “If you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere!” This has produced the predictable handwringing from the media’s civility police, and this from Trump:
We won’t even get into the repeat of Trump’s “extraordinarily low IQ person” racism/projection.
Two big lies:
1) Waters did not call for harm to anyone.
2) Cabinet officials directly responsible for separating children from parents are different from “supporters, of which there are many.”
And a threat: “Be careful what you wish for Max,” Trump says, immediately after falsely claiming that Waters was calling for harm to civilians. But look for the media to continue whining about uncivil protesters and ignoring or downplaying Trump’s long history of violent rhetoric.
