Sometimes, we have to put aside our anger and think about what we are doing. Melania Trump didn’t just happen to wear that green jacket. It was deliberate.
‘I don’t care. Do you?’
I’m mad at how this process went down. I don’t care.
I’m mad because you criticized my candidate, so — I don’t care.
I’m mad because you keep trying to force me to believe or think this way, so — I don’t care.
I’m angry because this candidate doesn’t believe in this one thing that is the most important thing in the world to me, so — I don’t care.
We ‘I don’t cared’ ourselves right smack dab into this Armageddon.
I don’t know how many times I posted on this website about the one single issue that we all should have cared deeply enough about to vote for Hillary Clinton, or against Trump if that’s better.
The Supreme Court.
We all knew that there were more than a few Justices who are up there in age. I didn’t know that Kennedy was in his eighties already and I suspect someone has pledged to sweeten his honey pot (but that’s another discussion for another time).
But we all knew, or should have known, what was at stake. Now we have this moronic idiot who is posed to make as many as 2 or even up to 4 appointments to the Supremes. We are talking about generational decisions that will shape the next 30-70 years.
While many are heart clutching over Roe v Wade, I’m thinking the Civil Rights Act itself.
Hell, the Supremes on 5-4 just said that banning Muslims by name is just fine and dandy.
They voted 5-4 today to gut federal unions and their ruling will affect ALL unions — make no doubt about that.
The courts historically had been the one place that we could seek balance, because it was a matter of upholding the Constitution.
Not anymore. Scalia must be smiling from down under now, because heavy partisan hacks will twist and contort the Constitution into a document that will not be recognizable anymore.
Now some of you will say, oh goodness, it’s not that bad — it’s not going to be anywhere near as bad as all of that —
But we have Donald Trump as President and he has been apparently worse than some could have imagined already — although I could have told you that this train wreck was coming back in 2016 — in fact, I did tell you.
But this is not about a ‘half glass full or empty’ thing. This is about looking at the situation as it really is.
This is also not a strategy. If you are one of those who thought that by allowing Trump to win would horrify people into believing in the world as you want it to be would work — I’m here to tell you that most people aren’t so singularly righteous. Most people are just trying to make a way for themselves and their families and if you inundate them with enough gloom and doom, they will simply shut down.
More won’t care and more will join in.
Unless it’s about sheer preservation.
We find ourselves at a great defining moment in history. What I would hope for is that the masses of good American citizens care enough to save this democracy from destruction.
