This month's tracking poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that people are paying a great deal of attention to what could be happening to their health care in the near future. We already know that it's one of the primary issues voters are following this election cycle, and now that's focused down to the very specific threat Donald Trump is posing to their ability to get health insurance at all.
About two-thirds (65%) of voters say a candidate’s support for continued protections for people with pre-existing health conditions is either the “single most important factor” or “very important” to their vote in the upcoming midterms elections, finds the latest Kaiser Family Foundation tracking poll. […]
Three-quarters (76%) of the public say it is “very important” that the law continue to prohibit insurers from denying coverage because of a person’s medical history. Similarly, seven in 10 (72%) say it is “very important” that the law continue to keep insurers from charging sick people more for coverage. On each question, majorities across party identification view both protections as “very important.”
Those are awfully large percentages of voters, there. Even a majority of Republicans, 51 percent, put it at the top of their list. That's more than any other health issue for these voters, probably because six in 10 say they or someone in their family has a condition that could result in their being denied coverage, should Trump and the states suing to invalidate the Affordable Care Act prevail. No wonder Republicans are doing their damnedest to run away from Trump on this one.
Here's the thing, though. By their actions Republicans are showing that they are more to happy to jettison these protections, as long as they're also attacking Obamacare.
There's one more thing, here. The Supreme Court. There's a reason that conservative states have been fighting in the courts to get rid of Obamacare—elected Republicans haven't been able to get the job done. But conservative judges can, and we're on the cusp of having a Supreme Court that finish it off.
Please give $1 to our Senate and House funds so that Republicans pay the price for sabotaging our health care.
