I realize this post will offend some of you here, but, alas, to quote the late Rick Nelson, “You can’t please everyone, so you got to please yourself.”
My personal entreaty to Bill Clinton:
Dear Bill,
Shut up and go away. Please. Now. Thank you.
All the best,
Bob Johnson
After watching his latest self-involved performance on the Today show, I am simply asking Bill to do the Democratic Party a favor and put himself and his massive ego out to pasture once and for all.
This is Clinton’s own version of “Witch hunt!”
No surprise, really, that Dems running for office don’t want Bill anywhere near their campaigns in the time of #MeToo:
Mrs. Clinton’s husband appears far less welcome on the trail, with his unpopularity among Republicans compounded by new skepticism on the left about his treatment of women and allegations of sexual assault.
...
Democrats have been keeping their distance: During the special election for Senate in Alabama in December, Doug Jones, the Democrat who won the race, considered enlisting Mr. Clinton’s help before abandoning the idea as too risky.
When Mr. Clinton offered to campaign for Ralph Northam, now the governor of Virginia, Mr. Northam’s camp responded cautiously. Rather than headlining a public event, Mr. Clinton was urged to attend a fund-raiser already scheduled in the Washington area — a suggestion that offended the former president, according to people briefed on the awkward exchange. The Northam and Clinton camps discussed a church visit in October but failed to agree on a date.
So, Bill, how about avoiding the limelight until we get through the midterms? Your presence and your refusal to take responsibility for your past actions — as evidenced by today’s interview highlighted, above — does nothing to help us.
Take some time for yourself. You deserve it.
Update:
And to those blaming the media or claiming the Today show interview was an “ambush,” if Bill Clinton thought he could go on national TV to do an interview and not be asked about his past indiscretions in the time of #MeToo, then he’s not nearly as smart as we all have believed for these many years.
The fact that he didn’t have a more cogent or contrite response to a question he had to know was coming tells me he is past his prime. All the more reason for him to lay low.
